Thoughtful Gestures That Mean the Most

Clear blue skies and warm sunshine greeted us this morning, and so after breakfast we decided to enjoy a long neighborhood walk. We passed by the most beautiful butterfly garden, and our favorite little stream and park nestled next to the community firehouse. It was a wonderful way to spend our Sunday, and in these uncertain times, I have found great comfort in these special moments with my family and out in nature.

When we returned home, there was a beautiful box and card perched on our porch. I opened the box and card to reveal the sweetest note from a dear friend, and gorgeous blueberry muffins from one of our favorite local bakeries. Such a thoughtful gesture, that made our day! Right now, so many of us (myself included), are busy with cooking, cleaning, working, homeschooling, and the list goes on. However, it’s important now more than ever to pause, and think about what we can do for others. It’s these thoughtful gestures, big and small, that mean the most.

Here are some ideas on what you can do to make a difference, and I hope everyone continues to stay safe and healthy at home.

Quick Tips

Modern Etiquette Quick Tips: Thoughtful Gestures That Mean the Most

Drop off (on the porch!) baked goods from your favorite bakery or flowers from your favorite florist to a friend. You could even have these items delivered.

Send hand written cards to loved ones. The kids can help too with homemade cards!

Always wear a mask when out at the grocery store, picking up food, etc.

Donate food or funds to a shelter, food bank, or other relief organization.

Check in with family, friends and neighbors, and connect via a phone call or FaceTime. Offer to help them too if you’re able, by dropping off groceries or prescriptions.

Pay your nanny or housekeeper – what you can, and if possible – even though they aren’t coming to your house right now. We can all use help during these uncertain times.

Support local businesses, be it a restaurant, coffee shop, local stationery store, or your child’s favorite toy store.

Stay home (stay home!) and practice social distancing if you leave the house.

A Perfect At-Home Spa Day (or Night!)

I treated myself to at at-home pedicure last week, and after a bit of scrubbing, moisturizing,  filing, and polishing, it was fabulous to have freshly painted toes. This afternoon of self-care had me thinking how wonderful it would be to create my own spa day or evening, and I thought you might enjoy this too! Sephora is having an incredible sale, so I linked clean and luxurious products and tools to rejuvenate you from head to toe.

Set the scene

To make your bathroom feel as relaxing and inviting as your favorite spa, you need to set the scene for serenity. Wear a plush robe, light a gorgeous candle, play soft music, and dim the lights to create soothing atmosphere. Cute slippers would be a lovely touch as well!

TLC via scrub

Prep your skin for softness with this coconut and rose infused scrub (my absolute favorite). I’ve raved about it before and I will rave about it again – it’s just divine. Follow with a warm bath or shower and then a rich body oil or cream, and you will be floating away on a cloud of relaxation!

Tend to your tresses

Since we aren’t able to get our regular cuts and color right now, give your hair the pampering it needs with a scalp scrub and deep conditioner. The scrub gently exfoliates and sweeps away build up, and this treatment strengthens hair so it is soft and silky. I’ve been using Olaplex for years and it is one of my favorite products.

It’s all about the masks

Who doesn’t love a sheet and eye mask? They can transform, plump and hydrate skin in a matter of minutes. Not to mention, they feel so indulgent! Apply a face and eye mask, and find a cozy spot to read a magazine or book while your masks do their magic.

Pamper your pout

Give your lips some love with this scrub that exfoliates, cleanse and conditions. Follow with a rich balm or this lip mask to finish this mini-treatment.

Tools, tools, tools

If you enjoy a tool or two, glide this cool jade roller across your cheeks and forehead to treat fine lines, puffiness and firmness. Place the jade roller in the fridge overnight too so its icy cold before you use it. This beauty roller is another trusted tool to lift up your skin and boost circulation.
